Neapolitan Pizza by Enzo Coccia
One cannot begin to approach the subject of Neapolitan pizza without encountering the name Enzo Coccia. As most pizza lovers around the world would agree, he is considered the godfather of the Neapolitan style. Like pizza, Enzo was born in Naples, Italy, where he has dedicated his entire life to perfecting the craft of Neapolitan pizza making. Carrying the torch from one generation to the next, Enzo proudly represents the delicious art and tradition of his beloved hometown. As Enzo would say, Napoli e la citta del mondo, or in English, “Naples is the City of the World.” Enzo – along with his sons, Andrea and Marco – owns and operates one of the most renowned Michelin Guide pizzerias in the world, La Notizia. It’s here in this charmingly chaotic and inviting kitchen that the family preserves and teaches authentic methods for producing Neapolitan pizza.
If one reviewed a comprehensive list of Enzo's extensive accolades and contributions to pizza making–some of which have been featured in articles by The New York Times, The Daily Telegraph, and The Wall Street Journal– they may find themselves intimidated by his noteworthy presence. Most recently, Enzo gained global recognition on television through his cameo in actor Stanley Tucci’s travel series Searching For Italy. In the first episode, Enzo expresses his love for his city, culture, and the traditions he embodies in his daily life. However, despite the fanfare surrounding his food and reputation, Enzo is truly humble and hardworking. He strives to protect his heritage and share his love for it with every guest who enters his restaurant.
We at Incendio are sincerely proud to have trained and consulted with the Coccia family. We are excited to bring this amazing culinary tradition across the ocean and into the heart of our Augusta community.
